It set in motion the golden age of the disaster movie. And its increasingly bad movie sequels led to the glorious feature-length punchline of Airplane!Bill Baldwinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09931067702109612529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764001039642101892.post-77575894060242768752014-06-12T16:05:53.585-07:002014-06-12T16:05:53.585-07:00I'm not too wide read on Delillo. One thing that struck me with White Noise is how certain cinematic (or rather television-esque) techniques were used in the first section. I was frequently getting a little thrown off with the transitions between scenes, until I realized that he was basically using jump cuts. Add to this the frequent passages listing products (i.e. commercials), and a pretty big focus on dialogue.Matt Kahnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07036604086152459854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764001039642101892.post-71775435385030094952014-06-12T16:03:30.547-07:002014-06-12T16:03:30.547-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Matt Kahnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07036604086152459854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4764001039642101892.post-41180715630185804322014-06-11T22:39:47.638-07:002014-06-11T22:39:47.638-07:00These are more or less the remarks I made at the A...These are more or less the remarks I made at the American Literature Association conference in Boston in May, 2013 with the exception of some improvisation I injected concerning Bosley Crowther, Manny Farber, and Sam Peckinpah and what I believe their works can contribute to understanding DeLillo. I also used graphic examples from the films of Tarnatino and Kubrick to illustrate how auteurs repeat images from film to film.<br />http://postmoderndeconstructionmadhouse.blogspot.com/2013/09/remarks-on-don-delillo-at-ala.html#.UyN3Gz9dXxAAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12280800909689675518noreply@blogger.com
